El Papiol: 50,000 euros for its former schools and funds against gender-based violence

Barcelona — The municipality of El Papiol has been featured in several publications of the Official State Gazette (BOE) throughout this year, with news ranging from a direct subsidy from the Ministry of Culture to rehabilitate its former schools to its participation in distributing state funds against gender violence.

50,000 euros for the former schools

The most relevant news came on July 23, 2026, when the BOE published Royal Decree 614/2026 (BOE-A-2026-16014), which regulates the direct granting of subsidies to entities related to cultural heritage and fine arts. In point 80, the decree grants 50,000 euros to the El Papiol City Council for “the reform and adaptation of the former classrooms and the former school canteen of the former schools for cultural and associative activities”.

The text of the royal decree itself explains the context: the construction of these buildings dates back to the late 1960s and currently houses two key entities in the municipality: the «Museu del Papiol» and the «Esplai Pa amb tomàquet», dedicated to children’s and youth leisure education. Although the council has carried out maintenance work, the decree emphasizes that “there is an urgent need to renovate the electrical installation” and that it is “urgent to replace the glazed enclosures”, which preserve the originals and seriously impair the building’s energy efficiency.

Funds from the Pact of State against Gender Violence

Two days later, on July 25, 2026, the BOE published the Resolution of July 16, 2026 of the State Secretary for Equality (BOE-A-2026-16237), which distributes the funds from the Pact of State against Gender Violence for 2026. Annex A lists El Papiol with a total amount granted of 5,504.25 euros, of which 1,910.39 euros are remitted from 2024, resulting in a transfer of 3,593.86 euros. These funds are intended to finance programs for prevention, detection, care and protection against violence against women, with an implementation period between July 1, 2026 and June 30, 2027.

El Papiol, a key point in traffic restrictions

The municipality also appears in Resolution ISP/300/2026 (BOE-A-2026-6095), published on March 16, 2026, which establishes traffic restrictions in Catalonia during 2026. El Papiol is a key road junction: the B-23 between Sant Joan Despí and the connection to the AP-7 in El Papiol (PK 15.0) is affected by restrictions for departures from Barcelona towards the AP-7 on Saturday mornings.

Presence in the distribution of municipal services

Finally, on February 2, 2026, El Papiol appears on the list of municipalities in the province of Barcelona included in the distribution of municipal services collected in BOE-A-2026-2389, along with neighboring towns such as Corbera de Llobregat, Pallejà or Molins de Rei.
